HRLMP operates medical laboratory testing facilities at several sites in Hamilton.  Service is provided to Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare hospital inpatients and clinics in addition to the specialized referral laboratory services for patient specimens from external clients in Ontario and across Canada. The HRLMP performs approximately 9.8 million tests annually.

The HRLMP was formed through the amalgamation of all of the Departments of Laboratory Medicine at the two teaching hospitals within Hamilton at that time. All laboratory staff, resources, responsibilities, procedures and budgets are administered under a single program, the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP).

The HRLMP provides a full spectrum of clinical laboratory services from operations distributed across five sites. The licensed laboratory sites include Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, McMaster University Medical Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton at the Charlton site and the Centre for Ambulatory Health Services. The HRLMP provides each acute care hospital with a range of clinical services for routine chemistry, hematology, coagulation, transfusion medicine, immunology, microbiology, genetics and pathology and a wide range of diagnostic services.
